PARIS WITH THE PASSING OF TIME ... History of Paris France
Back to Summary
It is not only the kings who chose Paris as their residence who created their City but it is the administrators, the provosts who managed it, the architects who designed it. It is also the middle-class, the notables, the philanthropists, the financial speculators who created and lived in its quarters. Together, they all represent, what Paris is today.
Paris, with its 105 kilometers at the beginning of the 21st century, represents less than four per cent of the French population.
Political, economical, cultural, Paris, as the capital city, sits the most important national companies.
Squares and districts illustrate the national and international aura of a capital city who can pretend having a leading role in the 21st century Europe.
Paris remains the city of a myth, an alchemy where images and imagination meddle. In the "Marais" small streets, alongside the Seine river banks, on the "Pont-Neuf", in the "Luxembourg" garden paths, right in the heart of "Faubourg Saint-Antoine", Paris has kept track of its history and the wanderer feels it.
Paris is still impregnated by all its past.
"Picture yourself that universal city where each step on a bridge, in a square recalls a great past where at each street corner a piece of history has taken place" (Goethe).
