Rasputin In 1905, a strange person introduced into the Russian Court; He was a Siberian peasant whose name was Gregory Rasputin. Everyone was intrigued by that man with a bushy beard, and blue cold piercing eyes. Family Life The imperial family was almost sacred and the tsar was a holly person. Nicolas II was the most powerful man in Russia; He owned eight sumptuous palaces and one estimated his fortune to over 45 billion of dollars. Revolution From 1905 onwards, one noted protests against the Tsar autocratic politics. The Russian people wanted changes and a new constitution. But the Tsar refused to reconsider his ways of ruling the country. On January 22nd 1905, a host of workers pacifist wished to send the tsar a petition. Trying to get to the Palace, the demonstrators violently repressed by soldiers of the Imperial Guard made many victims. Tsarskoie-Selo and Tobolsk As a result of the Tsar abdication, a provisional Government is implemented and civil war broke out in Russia. Alexandra is ever more weakened by anxiety and her health as well as that of her daughters was deteriorating. Representatives of the Duma announced the imperial family are all now in a state of arrest and assigned to residence in one of their Tsarskoie-Selo Palaces. To protect the Romanov from attacks of the people, which was becoming increasingly hostile, more than a thousand soldiers took position outside the Alexander Palace. [More...] |
